Ideal vacation spots

Korea is the number one spot one should visit!

I first went to Korea in 1999 . I was fascinated by the beauty of the scenery, simple yet enchanting. Even the flowers that grow by the roadside are so colourful and full of life. Cheju island is simply breathtaking. Although Korea culture takes after the Confuscian system, they are still so different from Chinese culture. The little side dishes that come in so much variety for each meal. My favourite is kimchi (fermented vegetables) and fried chap jae (mixed vegetables with a transparent noodle called dang myeon. The traditional hanbok is so flowy for ladies and I do not think any other costumes let women exude their gracefulness. Of course our tour guide then was extremely entertaining and added many points to my impression.

I was hooked on to the Korean culture before Hallyu occurred (”Korean wave” that took the world by surprise). I even took Korean language course so that I can read what the words are in Korean. However I do not understand them when you chain them together but most of the time I can guess the meaning if they are translated from foreign languages from Korean. I hope to be able to read and write simple sentences in future and if possible conversations with native Koreans!

When I went to Cheju, I was impressed by the fact that couples appear in identical outfits to show that they are on honeymoon. Cheju is also known as the honeymoon island of Korea. I vowed that I will go to Korea again with my husband (has not appeared then). 7 years later, my dream came true and I went to Korea again in 2006 with my darling. We bought identical T-shirts for the trip. It is so romantic to visit the place again with my lifelong partner.

For ladies who like shopping, Seoul is a must-go place! It is very trendy, much so than Singapore. Although merchandise is priced on the high side, it is still worth buying because it is unlikely you get a similar item anyway in Hong Kong, Taiwan or Singapore.

I will want to go Korea again with my kids….
